SENSIO® 3D Format and Technology Recognized as Best-in-Class, and Next-Generation Technology Premiered at Prestigious Broadcast-Industry Show
Award comes on the heels of significant commercial achievements and boosts SENSIO’s momentum in the broadcast market
MONTREAL, QUEBEC–(Sept. 16, 2010) – SENSIO Technologies Inc. (SENSIO) (TSX VENTURE:SIO) today announced a successful IBC show in Amsterdam, where 3D broadcasting was high on the organisers’ and visitors’ agenda. The IBC2010 Innovation Awards honoured 3D in three out of nine accolades, with the prestigious un-nominated Judges’ Prize going to the FIFA World Cup™ in 3D. On top of being listed as one of ESPN’s technology partners in its podium-positioned bid for the Content Creation category, SENSIO® 3D was designated ‘Best 3D Technology’ by Cable and Satellite International (CSI) magazine, the leading non-US broadcast technology publication, at the show.
The prestigious CSI Awards are designed to reward technical and product marketing excellence in the cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting and IPTV sectors. They are judged independently of CSI by a panel of experts that includes practising and former heads of engineering and operations from some of the world’s most important network operators, well-respected consultants, and senior industry analysts. SENSIO surpassed NDS, Ericsson and Motorola to take this trophy.
“We are extremely proud to be objectively recognized as best-in-class in 3D technology,” said Nicholas Routhier, President and CEO of SENSIO. “It is gratifying for our engineers and for the whole team. We’re also very happy that concrete applications of SENSIO® 3D technology were also honoured by the IBC Innovation Awards. We’d like to congratulate all the winners of the Judges’ Prize, especially HBS with whom we have collaborated on many live 3D events in the past two years, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, and also ESPN, with whom we partnered for the nominated NCAA broadcast. We are delighted that pioneering in 3D broadcasting is getting the recognition it deserves.”
SENSIO was present at the influential broadcast and media tradeshow in a wide range of industry-leading products from its partners. International Datacasting showed its SFX-4104 IRD, integrating the SENSIO® 3D IP Decoder Core, which enabled the live 3D screening of the FIFA World Cup 2010™ in cinemas around the world. Miranda Technologies exhibited its DENSITE 3DX-3901 3D video processor with SENSIO® 3D IP Encoder and Decoder Core capability. Thomson Video Networks previewed its ViBE EM3000 MPEG-4/2 encoder and Teranex Systems, Inc. its VC100 universal frame synchronizer and format converter, with VC1-3DE application, both with SENSIO® 3D.
In addition, Gennum Corporation’s buzz-creating event unveiled its GX3290, the industry’s largest crosspoint switch (290×290), and officially premiered SENSIO® Advanced encoding and decoding technology in demonstration of the switch’s capability. SENSIO’s next-generation 3D technology enables processing of 3D signals, whether spatially compressed in a single 2D channel, or full-resolution dual-stream HD 3D. With both backwards- and forwards-compatibility, SENSIO® Advanced enables progressive and seamless deployment to dual-channel distribution.
“The whole team is very happy with the outcome of IBC 2010,” added Richard LaBerge, Executive Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer at SENSIO. “We’re currently surfing on a wave of success built of our recent licence agreements with GEO Semiconductors and Trident Microsystems, each of whom will be integrating SENSIO® 3D into chip solutions for, respectively, broadcast products and 3D TVs, plus the pioneering 3D broadcasting, in which we participated, is being recognized. With the upcoming mass-market launch of Vizio’s 3D TVs featuring SENSIO® 3D, and IBC enabling us to move a step closer to attaining our sales objectives, we’re not yet heading back to the beach.”
