Panasonic’s 3D Imaging Products Named as CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Award Honorees

SECAUCUS, N.J., Nov. 10, 2010 — Panasonic today announced that it has been named an International CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for the Panasonic HDC-SDT750 camcorder, the Panasonic LUMIX GH2 digital camera, and the LUMIX G 12.5mm / F12 (H-FT012), interchangeable 3D lens. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 35 product categories.

The Panasonic HDC-SDT750 is the world’s first consumer 3D camcorder, which includes a 3D conversion lens for the AVCHD standard that enables the camcorder to shoot powerful and true-to-life 3D video content. The Panasonic SDT750 is a user-friendly consumer 3D camcorder that makes experiencing 3D at home easy and affordable. In addition to shooting 3D, the SDT750 can record full 1080p High Definition (HD) in AVCHD, when the 3D conversion lens is not attached, and includes powerful features such as a 3MOS system, a Leica Dicomar lens and a 12x optical zoom. To shoot 3D video with the Panasonic HDC-SDT750 camcorder, the user needs to attach the 3D conversion lens that comes included, to record dynamic images. The specially-designed 3D conversion lens records right-eye and left-eye images simultaneously through its two lenses, thus resulting in video that can be viewed in 3D. The right and left images (each with 960 x 1080 pixels) that enter through the lenses are recorded using the side-by-side method.

The Panasonic LUMIX GH2 is a hybrid touch-control camera featuring full High Definition video recording and compatibility with the Panasonic 3D lens. The LUMIX GH2 elevates the company’s revolutionary LUMIX G Series, its line of Digital Single Lens Micro (DSLM) cameras that deliver professional-level features and performance in a compact and easy-to-use camera body. Compatible with the Micro Four Thirds System standard, the lightweight LUMIX GH2 is newly designed with an easy-to-hold grip and includes a refined image processing engine and sensor that delivers fast, sharp photos, full HD video recording, and the ability to take 3D photos with Panasonic’s new interchangeable 3D lens. In addition, the intuitive touch-control operation provides ease of use in shooting and playback.

Panasonic’s world’s first interchangeable 3D lens, the H-FT012 is based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard, and furthers Panasonic’s leadership in 3D technology. The LUMIX G 12.5mm / F12 (H-FT012) lens features two optical systems installed within the diameter of the lens mount, creating stereo images from the left and right lenses that are then processed with a 3D image processing system. Panasonic’s advanced technologies in optical technology, image processing systems, and lens barrel design, allow the 3D lens to be compact.

“Panasonic is thrilled to have three of our Imaging products win the Consumer Electronics Association’s prestigious awards, as it truly validates our success in manufacturing innovative and high-performing digital cameras, camcorders and interchangeable lenses,” said Richard Simone, Vice President, Entertainment & Digital Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. “Whether shooting 3D video with the SDT750 or shooting 3D still photos with the LUMIX GH2 and the 3D interchangeable lens, Panasonic continues to lead in the 3D revolution and strives to give consumers easy-to-use and high-performing products.”

The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. It is sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow.

Panasonic’s three 3D-ready Imaging products, the HDC-SDT750 camcorder, the LUMIX GH2 and the LUMIX G 12.5mm / F12 (H-FT012) will all be displayed at the 2011 International CES, which runs January 6-9, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase will feature honorees by product category in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center and will also be featured at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES on Tuesday, January 4.

The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria:

* Engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used
* Aesthetic and design qualities
* The product’s intended use/function and user value
* Unique/novel features that consumers would find attractive
* How the design and innovation of the product compares to other products in the marketplace

Products chosen as Innovations honorees reflect innovative design and engineering of the entries. Examples may include the first time various technologies are combined in a single product or dramatic enhancements to previous product designs.

Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering honoree products are featured on www.CESweb.org/Innovations, which lists product categories, as well as each product name, manufacturer information, designer, description, photo and URL.
