Cox Adds Fuel to the Fire with 2010 Yule Log

Festive and Free — Cox delivers the holiday tradition on Cox 11 and On Demand including a special 3D option

CHESAPEAKE, Va., Dec. 24, 2010 — Cox Communications delivers a holiday tradition with a twist this season, presenting the Yule Log on Cox 11, On Demand, and with a 3D option.

Begun in the 1960s in New York City, the Yule Log tradition offers viewers a chance to enjoy a fireside experience with holiday music via their televisions. The Cox 11 Yule Log will be seen on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and was shot locally thanks to the hospitality of the Williamsburg Lodge. Local viewers will also have the opportunity to enjoy special holiday music and the Spoken Work presentations featuring classic performances by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Angela Lansbury, Walter Cronkite and others (schedule below).

“We are delighted to deliver this holiday tradition that many people are so familiar with, and we hope that Cox can help make the Christmas holiday a festive and joyful occasion for our customers,” said Gary McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager.

Also this year, Cox is adding a little extra fuel to the fire by offering the Yule Log in 3D, in addition to High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD). This holiday gift is available for free through Video On Demand (VOD) for Cox cable subscribers.

In addition to the Yule Log, VOD offers viewers two other free winter scenes: Winter Green, a snowy, pine forest setting and Snowman, dressed in a top hat, scarf and neckerchief withstanding a windy, snowy storm. All three are available until Jan. 3, 2011 as part of Cox’s free on demand services. To see the 3D versions, viewers need a 3D TV with compatible 3D glasses and an HD set-top box connected according to their system’s specs. HD offerings were filmed with HD-cameras and are presented in 1080i picture and 5.1 sound.
