Technicolor Blu-ray Disc Output Increases 121 Percent

Technicolor SA announced financial and production results for its fourth quarter 2010.

According to the statement, Technicolor’s revenues were €1.155 billion (US $1.639 billion) in the quarter, up 21.4% from Q3 2009 and full year revenues were €3.574 billion (US $5.071 billion), down 1.2% from 2009.

On the optical disc replication front, Technicolor reported that in its fourth quarter 2010 “combined DVD and Blu-ray volumes increased by 54%, due to the start of the Warner Bros. agreement in August and strong growth in Blu-ray volumes. Even excluding the Warner Bros. volumes impact, Technicolor volumes increased in the mid-single digit range in the fourth quarter 2010 compared with 2009. The Group benefited from continuing improvements in consumer DVD purchasing and from the acceleration in Blu-ray growth driven by increased household penetration of Blu-ray players and by growing Blu-ray catalog business. During the fourth quarter, the DVD Services business won several new contracts from existing and new customers, including for 3D Blu-ray.”

In terms of raw numbers, the company manufactured roughly 441 million DVDs in the fourth quarter of 2010 (up 54% from the same period in 2009) as well as 47 million Blu-ray discs (up 121% over Q4 2009). For the full year of 2010, Technicolor produced approximately 1.073 billion DVDs and 94 million Blu-ray discs.
