Totalmovie™ Unveils Blu-ray Streaming Video On Demand Service
Selects RCDb’s WatchWith™ Service Delivery Platform for On Demand Streaming to Blu-ray™ Players and Sony PS3™
IBC 2011
MEXICO CITY–Totalmovie, Mexico’s leading entertainment-on-demand service, today demonstrated an extension of the Totalmovie consumer service to Internet connected Blu-ray players and Sony’s PS3 game consoles. The service is built on Related Content Database, Inc.’s WatchWith™ Service Delivery Platform.
Totalmovie consumers can now stream full-length movies to their TVs simply by inserting a Totalmovie disc in an internet connected Blu-ray player or PS3 game console and choosing from the available selections. The service works over any broadband internet connection, including the Totalplay fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service.
The WatchWith Service Delivery Platform enables Totalmovie to quickly extend their service to millions of IP connected Blu-ray devices in Mexico and to leverage a variety of different business models. The WatchWith Service Delivery Platform supports subscription video on demand (SVOD), transactional VOD options to “buy” or “rent” (TVOD), advertising supported VOD (AVOD), and a powerful new business model made possible by the Related Content Database™ called “Engagement VOD” or EVOD.
Engagement VOD leverages scene-level metadata for thousands of films and TV shows in the Related Content Database to present contextually relevant value-added content and advertising to the consumer. The metadata features of the WatchWith Service Delivery Platform extend beyond Blu-ray to connected TV, mobile, and web.
“RCDb’s WatchWith Service Delivery Platform not only extends our reach to millions of Mexican consumers today,” says Totalmovie managing director Robert Delamar, “but it also prepares us for future monetization of our OTT delivery business through contextual advertising and audience engagement.”
“The Totalmovie team recognizes the power and reach of a global standards-based solution like Blu-ray,” says Zane Vella, chief executive of RCDb. “Not only does the consumer understand and value the Blu-ray product category but they also purchase the players themselves, and that greatly reduces CAPEX for the operator. Reduced CAPEX means the operator can focus on delivering a great consumer experience and developing new revenue streams.”
The Totalmovie Blu-ray Streaming VOD Service is being demonstrated September 9-13 at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2011 in Amsterdam in the Oracle booth, Hall 9 #C15.
