EastLink is 3D ready – Regular slate of EastLink 3D content begins this October
HALIFAX, Sept. 22, 2011 – Canada’s largest independent communications and entertainment company, EastLink, is once again proving it is an innovator and industry leader, announcing today that it is one of the first in North America to provide 3D capability for its video customers across the country.
EastLink first broadcast movie and live sports 3D programming over its fibre network late last year, confirming the company’s system is ready to handle the growing 3D content being produced by movie studios and TV networks.
“Our research shows that 3D TVs are becoming increasingly popular,” said Deborah Shaffner, President and COO EastLink.
“As our customers have been investing in this technology, we have been proactively preparing to deliver the best 3D programming experience. We have been installing HD and 3D ready digital receivers in our customers’ homes for over a year now and offer HD & 3D ready receivers to customers who require an upgrade.”
As the holiday season approaches, TV manufacturers are expected to capitalize on the growing popularity of 3D ready TVs.
According to industry research, global sales of 3D TVs are expected to grow to more than 50 million units by 2014; more than 10 million of those are expected to be sold in North America.
EastLink’s digital receivers are HD, Blu-ray quality (1080p24)and 3D ready, which means that customers who invest in a 3D TV are immediately able to enjoy the full 3D programming experience.
EastLink is excited to announce a regular slate of 3D content will be starting this October through EastLink OnDemand with the premiere of the Hollywood blockbuster movie The Green Lantern 3D, starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively and the James Cameron produced Sanctum 3D starring Rhys Wakefield, Allison Cratchley and Christopher Baker.
“This is the first of many movies, programs and sporting events our customers will be able to enjoy in 3D,” continued Ms. Shaffner.
