LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valens Semiconductor announced that they intend to launch a cross-industry alliance to promote and standardize HDBaseT technology.
According to the statement, the HDBaseT Alliance plans to work with the consumer electronics and content industries to create a global standard applicable to everything from TV sets and projectors to professional AV equipment and home theatre systems. HDBaseT enables the simultaneous multi-room distribution of uncompressed HD audio and video as well as data/network, control signals and power (called 5Play) over a single Category 5e/6 (CAT5e/6) cable. Content can be transferred up to 100m (328′) with greater reliability and at lower cost than other available options.
The four founding members expect to release new details about the Alliance in the near future and plan to attend the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show held January 7-10 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
