DTS-HD® Allows Viewers to Unlock the Full Potential of Streaming Movies and TV Shows by Pairing High-Resolution Video with Powerful Multi-Channel Surround Sound

CALABASAS, Calif. — DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio solutions and audio enhancement technologies, today announced that Rovi-enabled digital video entertainment storefronts will soon be pairing their movie and TV show libraries with powerful DTS-HD® surround sound. Samsung’s 2013 connected TVs and Blu-ray players will be the first products to benefit from streaming DTS-HD encoded content.

DTS-HD is a high performance discrete audio codec designed specifically to enable streaming services to deliver content to consumers in immersive 5.1 surround sound.

“Streaming has a very bright future and we are excited about collaborating with Samsung, Rovi and the services it powers—such as Best Buy’s CinemaNow—to deliver an unrivaled audio experience to consumers,” said Brian Towne, chief operating officer and executive vice president at DTS. “We are committed to delivering the industry’s most immersive streaming audio solutions, and believe that consumers will appreciate the engaging entertainment experience that DTS-HD surround sound brings to their living rooms.”

Shipping on newly produced 2013 models of Samsung’s connected products and soon available as a firmware update to existing 2013 Samsung products, the Best Buy CinemaNow app—a platform enabled by Rovi Entertainment Store, a leading technology solution that powers the creation, distribution, discovery, and enjoyment of entertainment at-home or on-the-go—is the first service to offer customers access to DTS-HD encoded content. DTS is currently working with other Rovi-enabled streaming video services to provide their customers with the added entertainment value of DTS-HD surround sound.
