LG Brings CURVED OLED TV to Canada

LG takes an early lead in the next generation of home entertainment

TORONTO, Oct. 30, 2013 – LG Electronics Canada (LG) today introduced the world’s first CURVED OLED TV for sale to Canadians, becoming the first manufacturer to bring this next generation technology to the local market. Unveiled at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, LG’s CURVED OLED 55″ TV (Model 55EA9800) is now available for pre-order at Best Buy and Future Shop for $10,999.

“LG’s introduction of the CURVED OLED TV represents another important first for our company and the Canadian home entertainment industry,” said Jaime de Jaraíz, President & CEO, LG Canada. “This phenomenal, next generation product is our most consumer-centric TV yet. Its subtly curved screen provides a more comfortable and immersive viewer experience and delivers an IMAX-like experience in the home. I am very excited for Canadian consumers to finally get their hands on it.”

At only 4.5 millimeters thick at its thinnest point and weighing just 37.92 pounds, LG’s CURVED OLED TV is currently the thinnest and lightest OLED TV in the world1. The unique curved design allows the user’s eyes to be equal distance from all parts of the screen. The curved screen also allows viewers to enjoy excellent picture quality in both 2D and 3D images no matter which angle they are watching from.

The unique 4 Colour Pixel system features a white sub-pixel, which works in conjunction with the conventional red, blue, green (RGB) setup to create 33 per cent more colour output than traditional RGB colour systems. LG’s exclusive Colour Refiner delivers even greater tonal enhancement, resulting in images that are more vibrant and natural than anything seen before.

“LG continues to innovate television technology and was the first to develop the unique 4 Colour (WRGB) Pixel display technology for OLED TVs, which translates to more life-like colours, better reliability, and much better overall picture quality,” said Kevin Andrews, Senior Brand Marketing Manager, LG Electronics Canada. “Combined with our world’s first LG Curved OLED THX certification and our premium fit and feel, including our Jet Black Carbon Fiber™ finish, the LG CURVED OLED 55″ TV is one of the best televisions that we’ve ever made.”

The CURVED OLED TV offers an infinite contrast ratio for optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle. It also features thin transparent film speakers in the crystal clear stand, providing high-quality sound without compromising the TV’s aesthetic.
