Toshiba Announces 2014 Symbio Streaming Media & Universal Disc Players and New Audio Base With Power and Impact

2014 Symbio™ Models Add Smart TV Alliance App Capability and New Audio Base Includes a Powerful Sub-Woofer

LAS VEGAS — CES 2014, LVCC Central Hall Booth #10926 – Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced its full lineup of Symbio™ Streaming Media & Universal Disc Players, and Audio for Video products. The BDX5500 and BDX3500 both include an enhanced user interface and Smart TV Alliance compatibility. The newest entry in Toshiba’s Audio for Video lineup is the new ABX3250 Audio Base with included wireless sub-woofer so there is no need to compromise style or sound quality.

“Consumers continue to embrace streaming, and our Symbio streaming media and universal disc players provide the perfect mix of HD streaming and disc playback capability,” said Scott Ramirez, vice president of Product Marketing and Development, Visual Products, Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital Products Division. “Toshiba engineering is dedicated to providing impressive picture quality, but powerful audio is also needed for a great home theater experience. Our new Audio Base maintains 300 watts with a wireless sub-woofer providing a no-compromise solution for those placing their TV on a table.”

Toshiba Symbio™ Media Box & Universal Disc Players
Toshiba Symbio Streaming Media & Universal Disc Players are a Blu-ray Disc™ player, DVD player, CD player and streaming media box all in one. The new ePortal utilizes a one-page version of the new Smart TV with Cloud Portal GUI, which equates to elegant design simplicity and advanced control. For 2014, Smart TV Alliance App capability has also been added to ensure ongoing App library expansion.

The BDX5500 incorporates the UDE™ 4K Upscaling Engine and is Technicolor 4K Certified. UDE Ultra Detail Enhancement provides two-stage picture quality enhancement. Stage one provides superior 1080P video with both edge and texture enhancement so it improves picture quality for any Full HD or 4K TV. Stage two adds high quality 4K Upscaling for use with Ultra HD TVs. The BDX5500 also supports 3D playback, has touch controls and is slot loading so it can be placed vertically.

The BDX3500 offers full Symbio streaming media and universal disc player content capability in 2D with built-in Wi-Fi and Miracast for peer-to-peer wireless capability.

Both new Symbio models come in a new, compact, square media box design and are shipping in late Q1.
