Sony Electronics’ New Full-HD Projector Brings a Big Screen Experience into the Living Room
SAN DIEGO, March 31, 2014 — Sony Electronics today announced its new Full-HD 3D home cinema projector, the VPL-HW40ES, which brings a big screen experience to a wider audience. From action-packed thrillers to drama and absorbing documentaries, the VPL-HW40ES brings movies and TV shows and sports programming to life in 2D or 3D with vibrant colors, detail and contrast.
The VPL-HW40ES home theater projector will join the VPL-HW55ES, Sony’s industry acclaimed and multiple-award winning projector, in Sony’s home theater line-up. The VPL-HW40ES delivers the high quality, immersive images of a big screen cinema experience into the home using the same SXRD panel technology featured in Sony’s high-end digital cinema projectors, but at a fraction of the price.
“The VPL-HW40ES home theater projector is ideal for those that want a larger screen than a flat panel TV can provide, but at a reasonable cost,” said Yamato Tanikawa, director of home entertainment at Sony Electronics. “Also, this projector takes up little space and can be used with a retractable screen that is out of sight when not in use, perfect for those that do not want a large TV to be the focal point of their home decor.”
The ultimate picture quality
Thanks to Reality Creation, which reproduces colors and textures that often get lost when movies are packaged to disc, users will be able to see extreme clarity in every pixel. Pictures are crisper and sharper, bringing the image closer to the original master. The updated optical engine features a powerful 1700 lumen color brightness for clearer, high-impact images, even when watching in well-lit rooms. Additional features such as Sony’s Bright Cinema and Bright TV mode, with SXRD panels, enhances the 3D image even further in a theater environment and brings large screen capability into other areas of the home like the living room.
Contrast Enhancer analyzes scenes in real time, continuously optimizing dynamic range in each area of the image for rich, deep blacks and sparkling highlights. Sport and action scenes also benefit from Motionflow™ technology, which inserts extra images between the original frames, to provide smoother, sharper and more fluid on-screen motion with less blur.
Flexible installation
With an extra-wide lens shift range, the VPL-HW40ES offers more options for positioning the projector from a ceiling mount or off-center horizontally, so that users will always get beautifully proportioned pictures. The VPL-HW40ES has a built-in IR 3D transmitter, automatically recognizes 2D or 3D content and offers a choice of picture modes to suit any content. Noise-shaping ensures that fan sounds are at a lower frequency, emitting only 21dB, so sound is unobtrusive.
Pricing and availability
The VPL-HW40ES will be available in April 2014 in black for under $2,500.
