DVD6C Seeks to Collect Patent Royalties

The DVD6C Licensing Group (DVD6C) announced that on January 15, 2010, Toshiba, the authorized licensor for DVD6C, filed demands for arbitration to collect royalties allegedly due under DVD6C patent licenses with Duplium Corporation (Canada), Advanced Duplication Services LLC (USA), MAF Diskettes s.r.l. (Italy) and Bestdisc Technology Corporation (Taiwan).

According to the statement, Toshiba reports that it subsequently reached a settlement of its claim against Bestdisc and continues to pursue arbitration proceedings against Duplium and ADS. The statement goes on to say that MAF has commenced bankruptcy proceedings in Italy and, as a result, Toshiba does not presently intend to pursue arbitration proceedings against MAF, but has reserved the right to resume proceedings should it elect to do so in the future.

The DVD6C Licensing Group (DVD6C) consists of nine developers of DVD technology and formats — Hitachi, Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Panasonic Corporation, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., Sharp Corporation, Toshiba Corporation, Victor Company of Japan, Ltd.
