DVD6C Sues SCE for Unpaid DVD Royalties

The DVD6C Licensing Group (DVD6C) announced that its authorized licensor, Toshiba, is suing SCE Co., Ltd. to collect royalties allegedly due under the DVD6C patent license.

As a matter of background, the DVD6C is a patent pool formed by nine developers of DVD technology including Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo Electric, Sharp, Toshiba, JVC and Time Warner.

Toshiba, the authorized licensor for DVD6C, files lawsuit in New York state court to collect patent royalties due from SCE Co., Ltd.

April 22, 2016 — On April 20, 2016, Toshiba, the authorized licensor for the DVD6C Licensing Group (“DVD6C”) – comprising nine leading developers of DVD technology – filed a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court, New York County to collect patent royalties due from Hong Kong-based manufacturer SCE Co., Ltd. This action is part of a continuing global initiative by the DVD6C Licensing Group to enforce the DVD6C Patent License Agreement.
