Automated CD-R Publishing System Enhancements Announced by Rimage at AIIM Show

Relationship agreements between Rimage and KODAK also announced.

Minneapolis, MN, April 1, 1996 — An enhanced version of the Rimage Perfect Image™ CD-R Automated Publishing System (APS) that improves operation and performance, was announced today by Rimage Corporation at the AIIM Show. The Windows-based Perfect Image APS is designed to automate the publishing of multiple unique CD-Rs or handle large quantity CD-R recording and printing. The enhanced APS will be available for shipping from the company’s headquarters office in Minneapolis in June.

Priced starting at $20,250* for a 2X system and $32,550* for a 6X version, the APS’s new design enhancements increase the “landing zone” area in which the disc transfer is made and incorporates a fail-safe feature that shuts down operations and prevents equipment and/or disc damage if an improper transfer is made. These features help ensure reliable unattended operations.

The Perfect Image APS consists of software and an in-line Rimage CD-R printer connected to a KODAK™ Disc Transporter. Rimage’s unique software interface dictates the movement of each disc from the recording mechanism to the printer and back to the KODAK Transporter.

“The Rimage Perfect Image APS is the only fully automated CD-R production system available in the world today. With these new enhancements, our customers can be more confident than ever in the performance and reliability of the total system,” said Mac McCorkle, Vice President of Marketing for Rimage Corporation.

The KODAK Transporter incorporates a 2X or a 6X recorder and has a 75-disc capacity with automatic load and unload functions. The recently introduced red and blue color ribbons for the Perfect Image thermal CD-R printer are also available for the APS’ in-line printer. The Windows driver allows double printing of an image to improve print quality on matte surfaces.

“Rimage’s CD-R printing technology produces high print quality, flexibility and speed for software developers, manufacturers, government agencies and high volume corporate CD-R users who require professional quality printing and decoration,” McCorkle explained. “Our APS makes in-house information publishing an attractive solution — especially for those with dynamic information or mid-volume disc duplication requirements.”

Cosmetic changes such as modifying LED lights and a color change to coordinate with KODAK Disc Transporter components give the APS the appearance of a single streamlined unit.

Rimage Corporation, which provides a single source solution for hardware and software systems to record, store and distribute data on CD-R, diskette and tape, will demonstrate the APS during the AIIM Show at Booth 2838.

In related news, Rimage Corporation has agreed in principle to supply Eastman Kodak with its in-line printer component of the APS solution. KODAK plans to use the integrated product internally and market the APS through some of its business units. In addition, both companies recently entered into an export business agreement under which Rimage will market and support the KODAK Disc Transporter and 6X CD-Recordable drives throughout Europe (see enclosed press release).

“Rimage’s printing technology fits our global requirements for a complete CD-R publishing solution,” said Michael Ferguson, Strategic Account Manager for Eastman Kodak. “These arrangements solidify our long-standing strategic partnership.”

The Perfect Image CD-R printer can also be seen at KODAK’s AIIM Show booth 1202.
