Spectra to Receive Japanese Patent for Disc Labeling Technology

Spectra Systems Corporation announced that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office for a new patent, “System for Applying Markings to Optical Media,” related to the Company’s MediaCoat technology, which allows the graphical labeling of optical media across the entire play side of a disc (CD or DVD).

According to the statement, the Notice of Allowance is a written communication from the patent office stating that the application has been allowed and will be granted as a Japanese patent. Patents for this invention have issued in the United States and are pending in Canada and Mexico.

Nabil Lawandy, Spectra’s President and CEO commented: “The Notice of Allowance of a new patent in Japan relating to our MediaCoat technology further strengthens our overall intellectual property portfolio and the competitive advantage of our marking, labeling and authentication development pipeline – particularly in optical media since it is well positioned to support the growth of the HD Blu-ray format. Japan is a key player in the consumer electronics industry and therefore gaining this geographical expansion of IP is of great importance to us. We are excited about its potential to provide an additional level of anti-counterfeiting security, promote advertising and consumer ease of use of optical media in the entertainment and software industries.”
