Socialbomb announced the launch of the Socialbomb Live Platform, a BD-Live technology connecting Blu-ray audiences with Facebook and Twitter.
According to the statement, the Live Platform seamlessly connects Blu-ray Discs (BD) with social networks, allowing viewers to interact in real-time through on-screen menus and share content with friends directly from their remote.
HBO’s True Blood: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray is the first to hit the market with the Socialbomb Live technology. The creative concept was developed in partnership with BBDO New York. Technicolor assisted with Blu-ray Java programming and integration, and Deluxe Digital provided BD-Live server support. The True Blood Live Feed enabled feature includes customized profile avatars, more than 50 shareable scenes, themed status updates, virtual gifts, and real-time updates from the True Blood Facebook fan page.
“We have such engaged and passionate True Blood fans that we really wanted to provide them with a new way to engage with the program and share it with their friends,” says HBO’s Sofia Chang, “and on a level that exceeds what has been done in the past using the BD-Live Platform.”
Socialbomb Live technology is the most extensive interactive Blu-ray technology to date, providing fans access to features such as title specific status updates, scene sharing, virtual gifts, friend feedback, viewing parties and mobile integration.
“Social features are set to make a significant impact on the Blu-ray community by engaging audiences in a unique viewing experience with their friends,” said Scott Varland, Socialbomb co-founder and CEO. “Live Platform is increasing the replay value of discs and delivering a highly effective marketing channel with measurable results to content providers.”
Users authenticate their Facebook and Twitter accounts through a streamlined process where the user is directed to a URL with a special pairing code that securely connects their social network account with their Blu-ray disc. Socialbomb says it is currently engaged with several studios to implement the platform for additional programming.
