Akonia Holographics, LLC Launches in August, 2012

August 10, 2012 – Akonia Holographics closed on a $11.6M round of series A funding on August 10th. The company will be developing the world’s first holographic storage device that will compete in the enterprise archive storage market.

Akonia’s founders,  Dr. Ken Anderson (CEO), Dr. Mark Ayres (CTO), and Dr. Fred Askham (VP Media Development) have been key contributors to the field of holographic data storage over the past 12 years and combined hold more than 65 patents in the field. Building on over 20 years of R&D starting back at Bell labs in 1993 and then spun out to InPhase Technologies in 2000, Akonia is poised to finally make this promising technology into a reality.

Akonia has acquired extensive equipment, the know-how, and the entire patent portfolio of 180 patents from InPhase Technologies that incubated the technology with over $100M in investment from 2000 to 2010.
