CEA’s National 3D Demo Days Provides Unique Opportunity to Experience and Buy Before the Holidays
Local Retailers Showcase 3D, Surround Sound Technologies This Weekend
ARLINGTON, Va.–For the second year, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® is sponsoring National 3D Demo Days, taking place this weekend, December 2-4, 2011, at local retailers across the country. National 3D Demo Days is a nationwide campaign powered by CEA to help educate consumers about 3D technology and how they can bring the 3D experience into their homes.
CEA’s recent Black Friday Weekend survey showed that televisions were one of the most sought after and purchased gifts of the holiday weekend. One quarter of all shoppers during the Black Friday weekend bought a television. Throughout the year, 3D-enabled televisions have been the fastest growing segment within the display category. CEA estimates 3DTV sales to dealers will reach 3.6 million units this year, up 192 percent from a year ago.
Hundreds of dealers participating in 3D Demo Days, including national retailers such as Best Buy and Sears, will setup their showrooms to provide consumers state-of-the-art 3D demonstrations. Expert sales staff will also be available to answer shoppers’ questions. In addition to 3D, CEA, with special thanks to Dolby Laboratories, has equipped participating dealers with Dolby® High Definition Blu-Ray Discs. Retailers will also be showcasing content, courtesy of IMAX® Blu-ray 3D™ DVDs, featuring titles like Space Station 3D and Deep Sea 3D.
“With the holiday shopping season in full swing, this weekend is the ideal time for consumers to head to their local audio-video retailer or custom installer, experience 3D and surround sound, and then determine how to duplicate that experience in their own homes in time for the holidays,” said Kerry Moyer, CEA’s senior director of strategic relationships.
No matter where consumers live, they will be able to take part in National 3D Demo Days. A complete list of participating retailers, as well as more information about 3DTVs, surround sound and 3D Demo Days, can be found at www.ce.org/demodays.
