Corning Expands Availability of Industry’s First and Longest All-Optical Thunderbolt™ Cables to Asia
CORNING, N.Y. — August 18, 2015 – Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) today announced its Thunderbolt™ Optical Cables by Corning are now available in cable lengths spanning 5.5, 10, 30 and 60 meters in select countries across Asia, including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
Thunderbolt Optical Cables by Corning enable users to manage the demands of high-bandwidth audio and video production equipment, digital photography, and high-performance computing applications over longer distances. They are also up to 50 percent thinner and up to 80 percent lighter than comparable copper cables, giving users the ability to create, move, and manage data for what they need and how they work.
“By expanding our distribution of Optical Cables by Corning, users throughout Asia can now connect computers and devices at incredible speeds and over longer distances,” said Bernhard Deutsch, vice president, product line management, Optical Connectivity Solutions for Corning Optical Communications. “This radically different cabling technology is ideal for hobby and professional video editors and music producers – or anyone – who want the freedom to transfer their creative data at ultrahigh speeds, but without the whir of noisy peripherals at their workstation.”
With an electrically isolated noise-reducing design, Optical Cables by Corning are perfect for connecting today’s Thunderbolt-enabled devices, including: audiovisual equipment; Direct Attached Storage (DAS), serial attached SCSI (SAS), and storage area network (SAN) storage devices; docking stations, expansion chassis, and small Ethernet workgroup networks. Users can also “daisy-chain” up to six Thunderbolt devices at the same time, and the cables are “hot swappable,” meaning they can be attached and removed without interruption to the system.
The first all-optical fiber cables for the Thunderbolt community, Optical Cables by Corning are enabled by Corning® ClearCurve® VSDN® optical fiber. With a “zero-bend” radius, they can withstand bending, squeezing and tangling without damage or loss of function, making them ideal for routing through the harsh environment of a crowded workspace.
Thunderbolt Optical Cables by Corning have successfully undergone a rigorous certification process to provide users with an optimal experience. Thunderbolt is a trademark of Intel Corporation in the U.S. and/or other countries.
Thunderbolt Optical Cables by Corning can be purchased through Apple.com. Prices vary by country.
