The DVD6C Licensing Group announced that its authorized agent, Toshiba, has won an arbitration awarding it nearly $3 million in royalties, attorneys’ fees and interest due under the DVD6C patent license from National Film Laboratories (Crest Digital).
As a matter of background, the DVD6C Licensing Group (DVD6C) is a patent pool formed by nine developers of DVD technology including Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo Electric, Sharp, Toshiba, JVC, Time Warner.

Toshiba Corporation, the authorized licensor for DVD6C, wins arbitration awarding royalties, interest and legal fees/costs due from DVD6C patent licensee National Film Laboratories, Inc. d/b/a Crest Digital (USA).
October 26, 2012 — The DVD6C Licensing Group (“DVD6C”)—consisting of nine leading developers of DVD technology-has won an arbitration awarding it royalties, interest and legal fees/costs due from licensee National Film Laboratories, Inc. d/b/a Crest Digital (USA). On October 23, 2012, an Arbitral Tribunal issued a final award in favor of Toshiba for unpaid royalties and prejudgment interest totaling in excess of $2.3 million, as well as post-award interest on that amount at the contractual rate of 2% per month until paid in full. Toshiba was also awarded costs and attorneys’ fees totaling over $300,000, as well as post-award interest on that amount at the New York statutory rate of 9% per year until paid in full. This action is part of a continuing global initiative by DVD6C to enforce the DVD6C Patent License Agreement.
