CyberLink announced plans to deliver a new version of PowerDVD to support Intel Atom processor based devices running operating systems based on the MeeGo v1.0 software platform.
According to the statement, announced earlier this year, MeeGo combines Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo open source projects into one Linux-based software platform hosted by the Linux Foundation.
“We are happy to work with Intel to enable movie playback using PowerDVD on a wide range of Linux-based consumer devices,” said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. “Consumers will soon be able to enjoy movies and videos on netbooks, mobile computers, tablets and other devices running MeeGo.”
“Consumers are looking for applications that will give them a rich, exciting mobile experience,” said Ram Peddibhotla, open source business director, Intel Software and Services Group. “Software applications like CyberLink’s PowerDVD running on MeeGo-based operating systems, will help bring new levels of user experiences to mobile devices running on Intel Atom processors.”
PowerDVD with support for Meego v.10 open source is planned to be released in second half of 2010.
