In addition, DTS will be the exclusive sponsor of Surround Live 8: Absolutely Surrounded on November 3, as well as a sponsor of the DTV Audio Group Meeting: Living in 5.1, produced by Sports Video Group, on November 6.

November 3, 9 am – 5 pm, Surround Live 8: Absolutely Surrounded
Russ Berger of RBDG in Dallas will kick off the morning session (9 a.m. – 12 Noon), with his keynote address. Soon afterwards, guest speaker Michael Nunan of CTV Canada will discuss his work during the 2010 Winter Olympics and Hockey Night in Canada, Kyle Wesloh of American Public Media will discuss his use of DTS Neural Surround Sound for Nationwide Radio broadcasting and finally, Randall Smith of Post Haste Sound will discuss how he used DTS Neural UpMix for the Blu-ray mixing of the recently released The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Blu-ray in DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1.
During the Technology Showcase Special Presentation: “Upmix-Downmix—The Current State of the Art” in the afternoon (1 p.m. – 5 p.m.), DTS will present a technical overview of the DTS technologies in DaySequerra hardware used in events such as the Super Bowl, World Cup, French Open, XGames and Monday Night Football.
November 4, 9:00 am – 11:00 am, Applications of Time-Frequency Processing in Spatial Audio
Dr. Jean-Marc Jot, Senior Manager, Audio Processing, DTS, will participate in this discussion on frequency-domain spatial and audio signal processing techniques, including audio coding, microphone techniques, upmixing, directional microphones, and studio effects.
November 4, 11:30 am — 1:00 pm, Innovations in Digital TV
Geir Skaaden, Vice President, North American Licensing Operations, DTS will participate in this session that will examine work currently underway to advance digital television for the broadcast-to-consumer chain to the next level, including concepts, options, and possible timelines.
November 4, 2:30 pm — 3:30 pm, Innovations in Digital Radio
Geir Skaaden will also participate in this discussion of technology and technique, including topics such as transmission, playback, production and reception.
November 5, 11:00 am — 1:00 pm, Loudness Metadata, Concerns for DTV
David Casey, Product Manager, DTS, will participate in this workshop that will discuss what the situation of loudness is today from several points of view, and how the standards are likely to be promulgated over the next few years.
November 5, 2:30 pm — 5:30 pm Paper Session: Virtual Rooms
Dr. Jean-Marc Jotwill also serve as chair for the technical paper presentations focused on Virtual Rooms.
November 5, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm, Listener Fatigue and Retention
JJ Johnston, Chief Scientist, DTS, will discuss with his fellow expert panelists, their research and experiences with listener fatigue and its impact on listener retention.
November 5, 4:30 pm — 6:30 pm: Keep Turning it Down! Developing an Exit Strategy for the Loudness Wars
Dr. Martin Walsh, Principal Audio Engineer, DTS, will chair this discussion providing an update on the progress toward ending the “loudness wars” currently affecting popular music recordings.
November 6, 10:30 am – 1:30 pm, DTV Audio Group Meeting: Living in 5.1
The DTV Audio Group will meet to discuss real-time and same-day production in native 5.1 and review infrastructure challenges, as well as share some strategic thinking on 5.1 acquisition and quick-turn editing for News and Sports. Also included will be an update on loudness and lip sync issues and the education committee will report on the on-line loudness management tutorial.
November 7, 2:30 pm — 5:00 pm, Beyond Coding: Reproduction of Direct and Diffuse Sounds in Multiple Environments
JJ Johnston, Dr. Jean-Marc Jot, Dr. Zoran Fejzo, Chief Technologist, and Steve R. Hastings, Software Engineer, DTS, will present their technical paper, “Beyond Coding: Reproduction of Direct and Diffuse Sounds in Multiple Environments.”
November 7, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm, Audio Performance in Streaming
Alex Kosiorek of the Cleveland Institute of Music will cover DTS Neural Surround Sound for streaming applications.
November 7, 2:30 pm — 4:30 pm, The Challenge of Producing Blu-ray
John McDaniel, Product Manager, Pro Audio, DTS, will discuss how Blu-ray is catching on either as a storage medium, a platform for high definition video and audio, or even a super high quality format for audio-only titles, such as Pure Audio Blu-ray and will present, along with his fellow panelists, different authoring concepts as they can be found in current commercial products.
