BURNABY, BC, April 1 – Today, Future Shop, Canada’s largest retailer and e-tailer of consumer electronics, is celebrating the first anniversary of 3D TVs in Canada by announcing availability of the next generation in 3D technology: Cinema 3DTM by LG. The LG Cinema 3DTM TV recreates the 3D movie theatre viewing experience with lightweight, comfortable and affordable eyewear and delivers crisp bright images and wide-angle viewing. The first of its kind in Canada, the Cinema 3D display technology ushers in a new era of television viewing experiences.

“We’re thrilled to offer Canadians the opportunity to experience the latest in 3D technology. Together with LG, we are now able to enhance the home entertainment 3D TV experience.” said Todd Empey, Vice President of Store Operations, Future Shop. “We’re fully committed to bringing state-of-the-art electronics to our customers in all departments. To give you an example of our dedication to home theatre and 3D technology, more than 50 per cent of TVs sold at Future Shop in 2011 will have 3D functionalities.”

Cinema 3D creates 3D images that are entirely flicker-free, meaning LG’s Cinema 3DTM technology does not require traditional shutter glasses. This innovation resulted in Cinema 3D receiving the “Flicker Free” certification from Intertek and TÜV, making it the first 3D TV in the world to receive this designation.

“LG is excited to partner with Future Shop to celebrate the anniversary of 3D TVs by launching this innovative product in Canada,” said Colin Bettam, Vice President, Marketing, LG Electronics Canada Inc. “Technological advancements over the past year have made Cinema 3D much more consumer friendly allowing viewers to enjoy 3D content for longer and in greater comfort. The Cinema 3DTM glasses are more affordable and comfortable, picture quality is clearer from virtually any angle, there is more 3D content than ever before to enjoy and consumers can convert from 2D to 3D as they please. Overall, the user experience is exponentially better with Cinema 3D.”

About LG Cinema 3D
The Cinema 3DTM glasses use passive technology and because passive 3D glasses do not require a power source, they are more affordable than traditional shutter glasses costing a few dollars per pair, so more people can enjoy an immersive 3D experience. LG Cinema 3DTM optimizes the separation of images for the left and right eye, which are then filtered through the glasses to give viewers a better 3D effect with minimal cross-talk.

Shutter glasses that utilize the active technology use LCD lenses that are commanded to alternately open and shut each lens to show each eye a different image which results in the flicker effect. The LW6500 model is not only “Flicker Free”, but also improves picture quality with 3D Light Boost, a thin film covering the screen that ensures 3D images are shown at maximum brightness.

LG Cinema 3DTM TV is available in three sizes and prices: 42″ ($1749.99), 47″ ($1899.99) and 55″ ($2649.99).
