HDMI Interface Approaches 5 Billion Consumer Devices as Advanced-Performance HDMI Products Reach Market
Spotlight on New HDMI Premium Cable Certification Program Participants
LAS VEGAS — CES – HDMI Licensing, LLC today announced that over 1,700 licensed HDMI Adopters are expected to ship over 750 million HDMI-compliant products in 2016, as the installed base now approaches 5 billion units of HDMI-enabled products worldwide. Additionally, nearly 60% of all HDMI Adopters have licensed the latest version of the Specification, HDMI 2.0a.
HDMI 2.0a Specification Gains Momentum
New products from DTVs, PCs, AVRs and forthcoming 4K/UltraHD Blu-ray Disc players will deliver 4K/UltraHD video with higher frame rates, and greater color range and contrast via High Dynamic Range (HDR). “These new products coupled with recent content announcements from Hollywood studios and streaming services supporting 4K/UltraHD and High Dynamic Range bring a lifelike experience to the home theater,” said Rob Tobias, president of HDMI Licensing, LLC. There is a demonstration showing the benefits of HDR at the HDMI Licensing booth, located at South Hall 1 Booth 21012.
HDMI Forum Developing Future HDMI Specification
“The current 2.0a technology delivers stunning audio and video experiences for consumers, and it is the mission of the HDMI Forum to continually evolve and drive the next generation of HDMI Specification, “ said Robert Blanchard, president of the HDMI Forum. “The next version of the HDMI specification targets 8K resolution, enhanced High Dynamic Range and other important features such as delivering power over the interface to products such as streaming media sticks.”
The New HDMI Premium Cable Certification Program
Recently HDMI Licensing, LLC announced the launch of its new HDMI Premium Cable Certification Program for Adopters who want to ensure ultra-reliable high performance cable connectivity at 18Gbps with the capability to deliver full 4K/Ultra HD. The program provides a best-practices High Speed HDMI Cable design guideline, an expanded compliance test specification, as well as an authentication system. The program has quickly attracted 28 participating companies (at press time) certifying cables under the new program. “HDMI cable choice can sometimes be confusing for consumers, and the Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program makes it easy to tell that the cable supports the advanced HDMI-enabled features, including the full 18.0 Gbps bandwidth enabled by HDMI 2.0a,” said Kurt Denke, owner of Blue Jeans Cable. “And the scannable counterfeit-proof label removes any doubt of performance by showing that the product is authentic and has the Premium HDMI Cable certification from an HDMI Authorized Test Center.” There is an HDMI Premium Cable display and verification demonstration, as well as a 4K@60 gaming demonstration, at the HDMI Licensing booth South Hall 1 Booth 21012.
