Display Search: Hisense Is Now the World’s 4th Largest Shipper of TVs

QINGDAO, China, June 11, 2014 — The number of TV sets shipped globally in Q1 reached 49.7 million, the same as in Q1 of last year, according to a just released report from leading American market research firm Display Search. A highlight of the report is the jump in the number of units shipped by China-based Hisense, bringing the manufacturer’s total up to 5.3 percent of overall units shipped globally, or just 0.1 percent less than Sony, which came in third. In dollar value, Hisense’s shipments represent 6.4 percent of the world’s total, ranking it fourth on the list. Hisense took the lead in China’s market with a shipment share of 18.5 percent.

The report showed that for shipments of 4K TVs in Q1’14, Hisense took second position in terms of both volume and dollar value, with the model reaching 20.4 percent of the market for volume and 16 percent for dollar value.

In the large screen TV market, Hisense also performed well. In the 50 to 54 inches segment, Hisense surpassed Sony, reaching number three and a global market share of 10.7 percent. In the 55 to 59 inches segment, Hisense leaped to the number two spot with a global market share of 13.5 percent.

Since the beginning of the year, Hisense has increased its efforts on the research and development of high-end products such as smart, ULED, and 4K TVs. The sales volume of ULED and VIDAA smart TVs, items that were released first in China by Hisense, continues an upward trend. Hisense has been expanding its export of high-end products into international markets. Currently Hisense’s smart TVs are available in three chain stores, Best Buy, Walmart, and Costco, in America. Hisense’s 4K TV also has succeeded in entering leading stores in America, Europe, Australia, and South Africa, among others.
