Breakout Year for Hisense North America Continues as HIMEX Factory Ramps Up Production
30 Million Dollar Investment Doubles Capacity and Efficiency of Hisense’s Largest Production Base Outside of China
SUWANEE, Ga. — Hisense and Sharp televisions began to travel down the production line today at the HIMEX Factory, the 1.3 million sq. ft. facility in Rosarito, Mexico that is owned and operated by Hisense North America, a division of Hisense Company, Ltd. The production ramp-up follows the recent $23.7 million investment by the Company to acquire all equity in and assets of the facility, formerly owned by Sharp Electronics, with an additional 30 million dollar investment to update and maximize utility of the facilities.
Incorporating automation equipment and robotics effectively doubled the capacity and efficiency of the factory, now capable of producing and assembling three million LCD televisions per year. The investment makes HIMEX Hisense’s largest TV production base outside of China. More importantly, HIMEX, which sits on over 49 acres and consists of a plant and a warehouse, provides a supply chain platform that enables Hisense to deliver its superior picture quality models at affordable costs across the Americas.
“As we continue to develop the Hisense brand in the U.S. and the rest of the Americas, we are confident that our strategic investment in HIMEX will pay dividends in fueling our growth,” said Jerry Liu, CEO of Hisense North America. “In addition to enhancing our logistics and fulfillment capabilities through its strategic location, this world class facility will be producing a total of 47 television models that will be available to consumers across North and South America this year.”
In 2016 alone, Hisense and Sharp products will be offered in over 10,000 retail locations across North America, up from 3,000 in the year prior. HIMEX will support the production of televisions from both brands, ranging from Hisense’s Full HD to award-winning 4K models and the Company’s flagship ULED Series, as well as the Sharp brand portfolio of TVs.
The news comes fresh off a breakout presence at the 2016 International CES, where Hisense outlined its plans to achieve the number three television brand position in the U.S. over the next three years. To support that goal, Hisense has established a significant presence in North America; its headquarters are located outside of Atlanta, GA, and R&D facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Atlanta and Toronto are driving software development.
Hisense will also support the local Mexican economy; the factory employs more than 500 individuals across various skill levels and will create additional leadership positions. As a benefit for the employees within the community it operates, HIMEX features a free on-site healthcare clinic, as well as childcare during working hours and a recreational sports facility.
The HIMEX factory is committed to the satisfaction of its customers and exceeding its requirements through continuous improvements in the effectiveness of its quality control system. The Company is committed to meeting its corporate environmental expectations and is operating under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 licenses, among others.
