HydraConnect LLC Introduces Dynamic 2D/3D Technology for its Matrix Processors

DENVER (8/14/12) — HydraConnect LLC has introduced a patent-pending Dynamic 2D/3D display management technology that maximizes viewing options and performance in custom installation environments with mixed 2D and 3D components and displays.

Dynamic 2D/3D technology comes in the form of a new software module that has been included in all new HSS matrix processors. This technology upgrade was also installed automatically on all fielded HSS-2 systems in use worldwide during early August without customer or dealer intervention.

HydraConnect LLC’s Dynamic 2D/3D software was developed to automatically and invisibly deal with the problems that arise in mixed 2D/3D environments in a custom installation (CI) environment where typically a collection of 2D/3D sources may be connected in any order and any combination to a varied collection of 2D and 3D capable displays. Using the HDMI interconnect, this connection has historically been made through an HDMI matrix switch. However, with the exception of HydraConnect LLC’s HSS family of products, present day switches do not have the capability to dynamically adapt to the 2D/3D environment properly.

For example, typical display problems that arise in a mixed CI environment occur when a 3D display is viewing a 3D source, and a 2D only display connects to the same data stream. The result will be no video or distorted video on the 2D display. A similar problem arises when a 2D display is viewing a 3D capable source, which is forced to deliver 2D content, and then a 3D display connects to the data stream. The 3D display will only show 2D content, causing confusion on the part of the use and possibly and expensive service call.

HydraConnect LLC solves this class of problems through its patent pending use of a dynamically controlled EDID. An EDID is an electronic descriptor of display capabilities that is passed to the source so that it can present the proper video and audio HDMI data stream. The HSS products are highly intelligent and can determine the capabilities of both displays and sources, and instantly modify the EDID presented to the source to be correct for the connection that is being made. Additionally, the HSS family of products can generate an On-Screen Display (OSD) to inform the user of the status of the display and the data stream even if viewable data is not available so that there is no confusion on the user’s part.

“EDID conflicts are a constant source of frustration for customers and installers,” said David Schanin, the president Denver-based HydraConnect LLC. “Dealer can spend hours trying to sort out EDID issues, and often fail to completely solve them to provide maximum performance to the end-user. Our solution is straightforward and simple to understand, though the behind-the-scenes technology is quite sophisticated. This new HSS technology prevents the customer from having to deal with problems they should never even be aware of.”

HydraConnect LLC’s Dynamic 2D/3D software has been added to all HSS model matrix processors.
