InterDigital Joins Premier BD Patent Licensing Group In Licensing BD Patents

February 22, 2019 — The Premier BD Patent Licensing Group — consisting of leading technology companies Columbia University, Disney, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Technicolor, Toshiba, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment — today announced that InterDigital, which acquired substantially all of Technicolor’s patent portfolio, has joined their worldwide joint licensing program for BD decoders, BD encoders, BD players, BD read-only discs, BD recordable discs, BD drives, BD/DVD hybrid discs, and BD recorders (“BD Products”), including BD Products that incorporate DVD functionality.

The Premier BD joint licensing program was launched on March 1, 2010. The Premier BD license portfolio consists of the members’ essential patents for BD Products. The essential BD patents that InterDigital acquired from Technicolor, which are part of the joint licensing program, will continue to be part of the program, and current licensees will continue to have a license for those patents in accordance with the terms of their existing Premier BD patent license agreements.
