Solid State Drive May See Increased Demand 2018
MILLIS, Mass., June 14, 2018 — Solid State Drive technology has been around for a while, but usually with a hefty price tag. As a result, SSDs purchases have typically tended to be made under more generous budgets, but that is about to change.
Over 2018, DRAMeXchange reports that SSD prices may drop due to less stock up orders, leading to a wider adoption of solid state drives. In the past, SSDs have been pricier than HDDs, but oversupply inventory with SSD suppliers may begin to drive those prices down.
The Benefits of Solid State Drives Over Hard Drives
Although hard drives have been the more common choice for organizations to store data safely, the “solid state” benefits of SSDs do outweigh the physical aspects of moving parts on spinning platter hard drives. With hard drives, there is a fast spinning disk inside with a magnetic coating to preserve the data. This inherently creates a potential for wear-and-tear over time. It is also more prone to damage if it is dropped, because moving parts could become misaligned, scratched, or damaged.
With Solid State Drives (SSDs), the technology is just that – a “solid state”, which means there are no moving parts. Solid state drives use memory chips which use electric charges to store the information. This provides a much faster means to store and process information, since electricity moves faster, and with much less wear-and-tear. In fact, SSDs could be as much as 10X faster than a typical hard drive, and will have a much longer lifespan.
Kanguru UltraLock™ SSD Provides Physical Write Protect Switch Feature
Kanguru has developed a variety of flexible external USB SSDs for organizations, whether they are looking for high-end, military-grade security devices, or an SSD for everyday needs. The Kanguru UltraLock™ is a fine SSD for everyday use. Available as both a hard drive, or an SSD, Kanguru UltraLock has an additional benefit of a physical write protect switch. This is ideal for users who may travel, or have concerns with a possibility of the drive becoming infected with malware while connected to a public computer. To prevent writing to the SSD, the user simply switches to “read-only” mode. When they are ready to write, they can simply flip the switch back. This also prevents a user from accidentally overwriting files. This highly convenient feature is only found on the Kanguru UltraLock.
Kanguru UltraLock uses SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology, making it one of the fastest drives available. It also maintains compatibility with USB 2.0 so it can be used with nearly any computer.
As an expert in secure storage, Kanguru has designed the UltraLock so that its firmware is secure, and authenticated each time it is used to prevent tampering. This ensures that the device is protected from “badUSB”, a potential dangerous threat of malware that could damage a network if a device has been tampered by a third-party.
Kanguru UltraLock is also TAA Compliant; manufactured to meet the Trade Agreements Act, which is ideal for government purchases.
