Constantly Innovating, LG’s 2012 Home Entertainment Products Offer the Latest in 3D Technologies and Smart TV Features

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2012 – LG Electronics (LG) will unveil its new portfolio of CINEMA 3D TVs at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (booth #8204). Led by the 55-inch class (54.6-inch diagonal) 3D OLED TV and the 84-inch class (84.04 inch diagonal) 3D Ultra Definition (UD) TV, LG will present a wide variety of new products, technologies and features catered to please consumers worldwide, including new CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, monitors and projectors and a fully matured Smart TV ecosystem which contains over 1,200 apps and premium 3D content.

“The 3D and Smart TV revolution is just beginning and LG is committed to convincing consumers the world over that these technologies are the future, not just a fad,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company.

Large-Screen CINEMA 3D Smart TVs
In light of increasing quantity and quality of 3D content, consumer demand has been growing for larger screens which can generate more realistic and immersive 3D viewing experiences. As a result, LG will unveil a wider range of large-screen CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, spanning between 55- and 84-inch classes.

‘CINEMA 3D World’ Zone
At the CINEMA 3D World zone, visitors will receive LG’s latest CINEMA 3D glasses, which employ new designs, including curved lenses. Visitors can use a single pair of CINEMA 3D glasses to browse through a myriad of LG’s 3D products, including CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, 3D monitors, 3D notebooks and 3D projectors.

Visitors to LG’s 3D Game zone will experience 3D gaming via a range of 3D monitors connected to Microsoft’s XBOX Kinect. The new 3D monitors have been optimized for gaming, as evidenced in Dual Play, which allows two gamers to simultaneously play the same game on a single monitor without having to split the screen.

Immersive 3D Sound
Also at CES this year, LG’s new home theater system is designed to complement 3D display products by further enhancing the 3D home entertainment experience. The BH9420PW is the perfect companion to any 3D TV, as it combines superior quality sound output with 3D Sound Zooming for an immersive 3D sound.

3D Zooming Sound is a new sound technology that uses an algorithm to generate sound output based on the varying depth of numerous on-screen objects displayed on a 3D TV. Viewers can feel 3D movements through the sound, allowing for a more immersive viewing experience.

Smart TV*
Over the past year, LG has elevated the user experience of its Smart TV function by adding over 1,200 apps and a range of premium content services. Such growth in sophistication has been accompanied by increased user convenience. NetCast, LG’s own Smart TV platform, has been upgraded and an integrated search function has been added to allow easier and quicker access to content. In turn, popular search words can be used to search through LG’s expansive Smart TV ecosystem. In addition to basic communication functions, social networking services (SNS) on LG’s Smart TV now permit users to “share” and “like” what they’re watching. NetCast will be the platform in approximately 60 percent of LG’s flat-panel TVs introduced this year.

Another noticeable advancement in user convenience is the new Magic Remote. In addition to the familiar Point control mode, the new Magic Remote allows three additional modes: Voice Recognition**, Magic Gesture and Wheel. Combined, the four control modes facilitate easier, more natural navigation and browsing. For instance, when performing searches, users no longer have to punch in each individual letter through on-screen menus, as Voice Recognition allows users to simply speak into the Magic Remote.

Google TV
At CES 2012, LG will unveil the highly anticipated Google TV. Combining LG’s popular CINEMA 3D display with Google’s Android-based Smart TV ecosystem, LG’s Google TV will provide users with another highly attractive home entertainment option.

LG’s Google TV is easy to use, due to the combination of an Android-based user interface and Magic Remote Qwerty designed by LG, which combines the user-friendly benefits of LG’s Magic Remote with a QWERTY keyboard. LG’s Google TV is also equipped with LG’s CINEMA 3D technology, enabling a home entertainment experience that is immersive, comfortable and convenient. Meanwhile, with a single click of the remote, any 2D TV program or movie can be viewed in 3D, thanks to the built-in 2D to 3D conversion engine.

CINEMA SCREEN Design
The CINEMA SCREEN Design is featured in middle- and high-end 3D TVs from LG that will be launched during the first quarter of 2012. The CINEMA SCREEN Design reduces the bezel of 3D TVs to just one millimeter, creating a more optimal environment for immersive 3D viewing, reminiscent of a movie theater.

The Next Generation Display: 3D OLED TV
What sets LG’s TV picture apart from other OLED TVs is its 4-Color Pixels and Color Refiner which work together to generate natural and accurate colors that are sharp and consistent. The 4-Color Pixels feature allows for more accurate color depiction by using a set of four colors (red, green blue and white) in comparison to the RGB setup used by conventional OLED TVs. Color Refiner helps provide consistency in colors from a wider viewing angle via an LG algorithm which improves and refines hues and tones..

Boasting an infinite contrast ratio, LG’s OLED TV exhibits vivid colors and the smallest details. In turn, colors and details throughout an entire image are preserved with utmost clarity and sharpness, even when displaying scenes with dark lighting. Such color capabilities are technically impossible with LED and LCD display panels. And at around 1,000 times faster than LED/LCD displays, LG’s OLED TV are capable of showing crystal clear motion.

LG’s 3D OLED TV is equipped with LG’s Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) CINEMA 3D technology, providing users with  a comfortable 3D experience. And FPR-type 3D glasses are less expensive and lighter than active shutter 3D glasses.  They also don’t need batteries or to be recharged.

3D UD TV
LG’s 3D UD TV boasts superb picture quality on an expansive 84-inch class (84.04 inch diagonal) display panel. With 8 million pixels and four times the resolution clarity (3840×2160) of existing Full HD TV panels, the 3D UD TV provides the most convincing 3D viewing experience currently available outside of a movie theater. Meanwhile, 3D Depth Control allows greater comfort, as users can customize their viewing experience by controlling the 3D effect. Additionally, 3D Sound Zooming provides users with immersive 3D sound that rivals the output of all but the best home theater systems.

3D IPS Monitors
LG will unveil several series of 3D IPS monitors. Overall, LG will be bringing to market a total of 23 3D IPS monitors in 2012. With LG’s 3D IPS monitors, users can view 3D movies and play 3D games from wide angles while mantaining color color consistency.

The 27-inch class (27.0-inch diagonal) DM92 series leads LG’s 3D IPS monitor line-up. With the application of LG’s CINEMA SCREEN Design, the DM92 series is equipped with a bezel that is just one millimeter wide, further enhancing immersive 3D viewing and gaming.
