Ooyala and Boxee Bring Web Video to Televisions Around the World
Ooyala Publishers Can Now Create Boxee Apps to Deliver Online Video to Living Rooms Everywhere
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.–The Boxee Box by D-Link, which delivers movies, TV shows and video from the Internet to any TV, ships tomorrow to pre-order customers in the US and Canada. Ooyala publishers will be among the very first to take advantage of this new content distribution channel.
Ooyala, the leading provider of online video services and applications, is pleased to announce a partnership with Boxee that enables Ooyala publishers to distribute web content to living rooms everywhere via the Boxee Box — and get Ooyala’s best-in-breed real-time viewership analytics. The United Football League (UFL) is the first Ooyala publisher to begin “boxcasting” by sending a full slate of league games through Boxee. The next UFL game available on the new Boxee Box, Hartford vs. Florida is set for Thursday, November 11.
“Helping content owners distribute their video to a wide array of screens and audiences is a fundamental goal at Ooyala,” said Bismarck Lepe, Ooyala’s President of Products and co-founder. “The Boxee Box by D-Link lets our publishers engage new viewers in the lean-back environment of the living room. We’ll keep working with innovative companies like Boxee to help our publishers increase their reach and own the consumer relationship.”
Ooyala publishers can create a custom-branded Boxee channel that gives them wider distribution while maintaining their existing workflow and advertising strategies. It’s quick and easy for publishers to add content to the Boxee catalogue while keeping the same online monetization features. Boxee’s social sharing function, which pushes content to Facebook and Twitter, extends the reach of each piece of content.
“Working with online video platforms like Ooyala is an essential part of Boxee’s continued growth,” said Avner Ronen, CEO and co-founder of Boxee. “Ooyala lets us connect with some of the largest brands in the world to help them extend the reach of their content from the web to the living room. We anticipate a strong adoption from Ooyala publishers and look forward to working with them all.”
Ooyala provides distribution solutions that can extend the reach of any publisher’s video. To learn more about Ooyala’s TV Everywhere initiative, please visit: http://www.ooyala.com/videoplatform/tve
