Redbox Launches Suite of Mobile and Web Tools

New Android App, Upgraded iPhone App and Enhanced Website Make It Simple to Rent Movies on the Go

OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL–(February 15, 2011) – For consumers who are on the move or on THE TOWN, redbox, America’s movie rental destination, debuts a full suite of new and enhanced mobile and web tools: a new Android™ app, an upgraded iPhone® app and an enhanced web experience at www.redbox.com. These new tools provide KNIGHT AND DAY access to the latest Blu-ray™ and DVD releases for consumers online and on the go — from ELM STREET to WALL STREET.

“The free redbox® Android app and upgraded iPhone app provide mobile users an interactive portal to view and rent new release movies from any of our more than 26,000 locations nationwide,” said Gary Cohen, senior vice president of marketing and customer experience, redbox. “Our online and mobile tools instantly connect consumers to our retail locations nationwide, delivering real-time access to inventory at any location from virtually anywhere.”

*    Redbox Android App: On-the-go access to the latest movies just reached a new group of mobile movie lovers. The new redbox Android app makes finding nearby redbox kiosk locations, browsing titles with box art and reserving movies instantly accessible via their Android-enabled mobile devices. The official redbox app, compatible with most Android-enabled devices (platform 1.6 and higher), is available for free download in the Android Market.

*    Redbox iPhone 2.0 App: Since its debut in December 2009, the redbox iPhone app has been downloaded more than two million times. Redbox has enhanced the app to provide additional content and faster connection speeds. The enhanced app features movie box art and loads up to 50 percent faster to make renting movies on-the-move a snap. The app is available for free upgrade in the iPhone App Store.

*    Redbox.com: Averaging millions of unique visitors a month, redbox.com is a popular destination for movie lovers. The site just launched its first major makeover, designed to make it easier for visitors to browse and reserve the latest movies online. Movie lovers can now reserve up to five movies at a time for pickup at their local redbox kiosks.

Each fully-automated redbox kiosk holds 630 discs, representing up to 200 titles. Consumers simply use a touch screen to select their favorite movies, swipe a valid credit or debit card and go. To find the nearest redbox location, consumers can visit www.redbox.com or text ‘redbox’ to 50101 from a mobile phone.*
