Runco Brings Cinema-Quality Digital 3D Home with New Signature Cinema Projectors

Award-winning portfolio includes two new models with patented performance at never-before-achieved price points.

Indianapolis, IN – CEDIA Expo 2012 Booth 3531 – Runco International, the leading brand in luxury display solutions and part of the global leader in specialty display solutions Planar Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ: PLNR)  today announced two new models in the award-winning Signature Cinema™ series: the SC-30d and SC-35d.

The new SC-30d and SC-35d both utilize a Runco-patented technology to enable the use of digital cinema lenses in a proprietary optical system. The digital cinema optics deliver the crispest and truest digital projection imagery available on the market today, starting at prices under $40,000 – making them the most affordable projectors in the Signature Cinema portfolio in the history of Runco.

These new projection systems provide an unparalleled range of brightness and features for creating immersive entertainment experiences with digital cinema quality video. The SC-30d boasts 3500 ANSI lumens of brightness uncalibrated, and when calibrated to Runco’s CSMS™ standards delivers a dazzling 87 Foot-Lamberts (fL) of brightness.

Signature Cinema projectors come equipped with three pairs of active 3D glasses, and rely on frame sequential 3D technology to ensure that users are able to enjoy 2D and 3D content on the same screen, with full 1080p HD resolution delivered to both eyes.

The SC-30d and SC-35d are also available with  Runco’s optional and exclusive CineWide™ and CineWide with AutoScope™, utilizing the highest performance McKinley anamorphic lens.  Since its pioneering introduction, CineWide has since been adopted industry-wide to properly deliver a stunning recreation of the theatrical experience with 2.35:1 aspect ratio movies by removing the black bars from letterboxed content. All video aspect ratios are supported without any loss of image integrity for the best possible imagery from all video sources.

“We are proud to add these two stunning new models to the Signature Cinema line, which has exemplified Runco quality and performance for a generation of enthusiasts,” said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing for Runco.  “The patented optical system and proprietary Runco processing bring true digital cinema performance into the home and with the SC-30d and SC-35d, we’ve brought the barrier of entry into this level of performance to down to amazingly affordable levels, without compromising on quality.”

The SC-30d and SC-35d models ship complete with Runco’s new Dimension Digital Controller™ (DC-300), which has been engineered to enhance 3D performance, while providing the leading video processing technology, calibration tools, and source compatibility on the market. As a rack-mounted external processor, the DC-300 offers advanced connectivity options, as well as installation flexibility.  It is designed to be located next to, and connect directly to, all other source components, with a single-wire connection from the processor to the projector, which makes it an ideal solution for retrofit installations.

In addition to their stunning performance, the sleek, stylish chassis of the SC-30d and SC-35d  can also be customized with Runco’s ColourPalette™ design options, in a Signature colors or custom shade matched to the clients’ taste.

Shipping in October 2012, retail pricing for the Runco SC-30d starts at $39,995 and the Runco SC-35d at $44,995.  The SC series also features the standard two-year RuncoCare™ standard warranty.
