Sigma Designs Broadens 3D Capabilities with Added Support for TDVision System’s Full HD Stereoscopic Video Decoding Technology

Award-Winning and Standardized 3D Format from TDVision Broadens Capabilities of Sigma Media Processors
IBC2010

MILPITAS, Calif.–Sigma Designs (NASDAQ:SIGM), a leading provider of System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions used to deliver entertainment and control throughout the home, and TDVision Systems, the leader in Full HD 3D to the home technologies, today announced that Sigma is the first chip company to publicly support TDVision System’s Full HD stereoscopic video decoding technology. Sigma’s next generation advanced media processors will support the award winning 2D+Delta stereoscopic decoding system by TDVision.

“The 3D market is growing and Sigma is best positioned to capitalize on this growth,” said David Lynch, vice president and general manager, Media Processor Division at Sigma. “By integrating TDVision’s technology into our media processors, we are enabling full HD 3D decoding over IPTV, satellite, cable and over-the-air devices.”

TDVision’s 2D+Delta system consists of different profiles to best fit the transmission pipeline available. These profiles include the basic Multiview Video Coding (MVC) standard, advanced profiles for high-bandwidth savings, and hybrid implementations for full MPEG-2 legacy support.

The 2D+Delta format is a key part of the MVC codec (ISO/IEC 14496-10:2008, Amendment 1), an extension to the ITU-T H.264 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) adopted by the Blu-ray Disc Association as the “Blu-ray 3DTM” specification.

“The industry is moving from half resolution Frame-Compatible interim formats, to our Service-Compatible and full HD 3D solutions. Implementing TDVision’s 2D+Delta system on the highly optimized Sigma media processors allows service and content providers to enable new 3D users with the best quality 3D HD video, optimizing the bandwidth used for transmission while retaining full compatibility with the current installed base of legacy 2D users in HD. We understand that quality and compatibility are key to succeed in the home, so we must not preclude the entire existing 2D installed base.” Said Manuel R. Gutierrez-Novelo, CEO & President of TDVision.
