SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES Hosts 3rd International Customer Event
Kahl am Main, December 6, 2013 – SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES (SINGULUS) hosted the international industry highlight of the optical disc sector on December 4 & 5, 2013. Many customers and business partners as well as representatives from market research institutes accepted the invitation for the event titled “Technology & Market Review 2013 and Future Outlook/Media-Tech Year-End Event”. Already for the third time, Chief Executive Officer Dr.-Ing. Stefan Rinck and Sylvia Hitzel, Vice President Marketing & Sales, welcomed around 120 guests from 19 countries at SINGULUS’ headquarters in Kahl am Main.
The current market developments, latest trends in the media sector as well as innovative production methods were in the spotlight of the numerous trade presentations. In his keynote speech Steve Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Cinram Group from Canada, shared his thoughts about changes in the media landscape.
Afterwards, various interesting topics were discussed in three sessions. An initial highlight was the presentation of the latest OLED (OLED = organic light-emitting diode) TV technology by Mr. Alexander Biebel from Merck, Darmstadt. Merck presented a new “OLED” screen by LG. The new OLED screen technology convinces with three advantages: excellent contrast, impressive color display and enormous viewing angle.
Also Sven Deutschmann from Arvato Entertainment Europe focused his speech on the market changes and presented Arvato’s future positioning.
In the 2nd session the topics 4 K, UHD (ultra high definition) and new Blu-ray formats were in the spotlight. Samsung showed a new 85 inch TV set, which displayed the upcoming new television technology. At various trade fairs these new TV sets with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels were already presented. SINGULUS showcased the further development of today’s Blu-ray Disc, a triple layer Blu-ray Disc with 100 GB storage capacity. With the realization of a new and specifically designed data compression method for the ultra-high definition technology, the storage volume of each of the three information layers can be increased from 25 GB to 33 GB. In its committees, the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) is currently discussing the specifications of new, global standards. In a live demo 4 K trailers and music by Martin & Georg Koppehele of LICHTMOND were shown with 7.1 surround quality.
In the last session, amongst others new applications for the vacuum coating technology as well as for OLED technology were presented. Dr. Klaus Hecker of the Organic and Printed Electronics Association, a work group of the VDMA, provided some insights into the world of organic and printed electronics. Mr. Philipp Nikoleizig from the Institute for Plastic Processing at the RTWH Aachen showed new trends and applications in the area of injection molding.
At the end of the event Chief Executive Officer Dr.-Ing. Stefan Rinck drew some positive conclusions: “As the market leader for CD, DVD and Blu-ray Disc production machines as well as a technologically leading company in the solar sector and for nano coating, it is vital for us to constantly communicate with our customers and business partners. This event offers an ideal platform for an exchange significantly advancing our work.”
