Sony DADC Shutters CD Distribution Operation, Cuts 248 Jobs

Sony DADC announced that it will close its CD distribution centre in Fishers, IN, eliminating 248 jobs in the process.

According to Lisa Gephardt, spokesperson for Sony Corporation of America, the company will shift its physical music distribution agreements to Anderson Merchandisers, which operates a facility down the road in Franklin, IN. Layoffs will commence in May with Fishers scheduled to close by September 2012.

As a matter of background, Sony DADC purchased the Fishers distribution operation, U.S. supply agreements with Universal Music Group and various bits of manufacturing equipment from EDCI Holdings (Entertainment Distribution Company) in 2008 for $26.0 million in cash.
