Now available for pre-order at Amazon.com, special-edition DVD sets feature complete seasons, plus never-before-seen bonus features
CHARLESTON, S.C. & NEW YORK–“The tribe has spoken!” CreateSpace, part of the Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) group of companies, and CBS Home Entertainment today announced the DVD release of the third and fourth seasons of reality show phenomenon “Survivor,” exclusively via CreateSpace’s DVD on Demand technology. Fans have long been requesting these titles, and now both “Survivor III: Africa” and “Survivor IV: Marquesas” are coming to DVD on September 28, 2010 with all of the original series’ episodes, as well as gripping bonus features including complete exit interviews and never before aired behind-the-scenes footage. Both DVD releases are now available for pre-order on Amazon.com, one of CreateSpace’s distribution channels available to its members (SRP $34.95 each).
CreateSpace’s DVD on Demand platform allows studios and networks to bring their most buzz-worthy content quickly and cost-effectively to market since titles are manufactured only in response to customer demand, ensuring sought-after DVDs are always in-stock and available to be rushed into the hands of fans. In addition, CreateSpace can distribute a wide range of content on-demand through Amazon.com and other channels.
“We are very excited that CBS has chosen to work with CreateSpace in releasing these two seasons of ‘Survivor,’ the series that started the whole reality television craze, on DVD for the first time ever,” said Dana LoPiccolo-Giles, managing director, CreateSpace. “Our groundbreaking on-demand technology is an innovative solution offering consumers the popular content they really want.”
“’Survivor’ is one of our most requested titles by fans, so we are excited to release ‘Survivor: Africa’ and ‘Survivor: Marquesas,’” said Ken Ross, executive vice president and general manager of CBS Home Entertainment. “We are delighted to join forces with CreateSpace and to bring ‘Survivor’ enthusiasts the content they previously weren’t able to get through traditional distribution.”
“Survivor III: Africa” stranded 16 castaways in Kenya’s Shaba National Reserve. Airing from October 2001 through January 2002 on CBS, this was the first season with a “twist” – three members of the Boran and Samburu sides switched teams – as well as the first to include a tiebreaker challenge. After grueling challenges throughout the 13 episodes, Ethan Zohn emerged the victor and left the African continent with the $1 million dollar prize. This DVD will be released on September 28.
“Survivor IV: Marquesas” is notable because it’s the initial season of the top-rated series in which contestants weren’t provided food, water or even matches. Millions of viewers tuned in from February to May 2002 to watch competitors in the Maraamu and Rotu tribes, who were marooned on beaches of the Marquesas Islands where they struggled to overcome challenges and win immunity. Thirteen shows later, Vecepia Towery outplayed and outlasted all the others to take home the big prize. This DVD will be released on September 28.
In addition to the third and fourth seasons of ‘Survivor,’ CBS plans to use CreateSpace to release other Survivor titles and additional CBS series in the future.
