Samsung Unleashes 3D HDTVs in Canada

Samsung Electronics Canada announced it will make its 3D televisions available to consumers beginning March 26, 2010. 3D technology will be available in the LED 9000, 8000, and 7000 series models, as well as the 750 series LCD televisions, plasma 7000 and 8000 series televisions and the BD-C6900 3D Blu-ray Disc (BD) player.

Motion Supports Extending Canadian Music Levy

On March 16, 2010, the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage approved a motion that supports extending the private audio copying levy to digital devices “with internal memory” (such as iPods, cell phones, computers, etc.).

CPCC Seeks to Expand Canadian Music Levy to iPod

The Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC) announced that it is applauding Charlie Angus, NDP Parliamentary Critic of Canadian Heritage, for his introduction of a Private Member’s Bill to expand the private copying levy to digital audio devices, such as the iPod.

Cineplex and Sonic Expand Streaming and Downloads to Canada

Sonic Solutions and Cineplex Entertainment announced an agreement to provide consumers access to movies on a range of connected devices throughout Canada. As part of the collaboration, Cineplex has licensed the Roxio CinemaNow entertainment platform to power a new movie streaming and download service at www.cineplex.com scheduled to launch in 2010.
