US Viewers Look to Online Movies in 2012

IHS announced it reckons that Americans will pay to view more movies online in 2012 than they will on physical video formats, marking the first year that legal, Internet-delivered movie consumption will outstrip that of DVDs and Blu-ray discs combined.

Panasonic Puts Prices to 2012 Blu-ray Players

Panasonic announced pricing and availability for its 2012 model year of Blu-ray Disc (BD) players, which includes the DMP-BBT01 ($269.99), DMP-BDT500 ($349.99), DMP-BDT320 ($199.99), DMP-BDT220 ($149.99), DMP-BD87 ($119.99) and DMP-BD77 ($89.99).

Industry Group Pushes MPEG DASH

Microsoft, Netflix, Qualcomm and a collection of friends announced that they have formed the DASH Promoters Group (DASH-PG) to push industry adoption of the new MPEG Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) standard.
