DIGITIMES reports that 21 companies have banded together to form the Taiwan Blu-ray Disc (BD) Consortium, an association of manufacturers seeking to negotiate more favorable licensing terms and rates for the BD drives, discs and components they produce.
According to the report, the group currently consists of: China Steel, CMC Magnetics, Dacal Technology, Daxon Technology, Forward Electronics, Genius Electronic Optical, Infodisc Technology, Kinpo Electronics, Lead Data, Lite-On IT, MediaTek, Mustek Systems, Optodisc Technology, Quanta Storage, Ritek, Sunext Technology, Sunplus Technology, TCV Industrial, Tera Autotech, U-Tech Media and Yung Hua Machine Works.
It will be interesting to see if this group has any leverage or if its creation is merely posturing in order to play to a domestic political and investor audience.
