DivX Announces World’s First DivX® HEVC Ultra HD Certified Television by Toshiba as the Companies Renew Wide-Ranging Licensing Agreement
DivX and Toshiba Expand Longstanding Relationship with Agreement Covering Multiple DivX Profiles, Including DivX Plus Streaming® and Support for 4K Video
SAN DIEGO — DivX, LLC, a leading provider of next-generation digital video solutions, today announced the renewal of a wide-ranging licensing agreement with Toshiba Lifestyle Products & Services Corporation, a world-leading diversified manufacturer. Under the agreement, Toshiba has released the world’s first DivX® HEVC Ultra HD televisions—the new Toshiba 58L8400 and Cinema Series 65L9400 models of North America—which are capable of playing back high-quality DivX HEVC video up to 4K resolutions.
The agreement will enable Toshiba to add a diverse array of DivX technology to their consumer electronics products, including 4K and Smart TVs, Blu-ray players and more. Through the license renewal, Toshiba will continue to offer DivX, DivX Plus® HD and DivX Plus Streaming® playback on their devices. Additionally, Toshiba will continue to adopt the DivX HEVC Ultra HD profile, enabling the playback of high-quality DivX HEVC video at 4K resolutions. DivX Certified® devices can easily play personal and protected Hollywood entertainment in DivX profiles.
“Toshiba has always recognized the value of DivX® technology to enhance the consumer video experience, and we’re pleased that they are releasing the world’s first DivX® HEVC Ultra HD Certified devices as we extend our long relationship,” said Dr. Kanaan Jemili, CEO of DivX, LLC. “We’ve seen great momentum around our DivX® HEVC offering, and we look forward to continuing to work with partners like Toshiba to drive new technology into the market.”
The DivX end-to-end HEVC solution is designed to accelerate the adoption of the latest compression standard across the entire video distribution system. Consumer electronic devices that are DivX Certified for HEVC support HD and Ultra HD (4K) resolutions, and an advanced feature set for media playback, including multi-language subtitles and audio tracks, trick-play track for smooth fast forward and rewind, chapter points for quick scene navigation, and resume playback across devices. DivX recently received a 2014 Best Ultra HD Codec award from Ultra HDTV Magazine for its DivX 10 software and MainConcept® HEVC SDK.
