TRACE ANNOUNCES WORLD’S FIRST CD-R PRINTER

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 10 — Trace today announced first shipments of the industry’s first printer specifically for CD-R media. The CDP 5300 allows software developers to print directly onto the surface of specially coated CD-R media. “This technologic breakthrough represents a totally new product category within the CD industry,” said Matthew Leek, marketing manager for Trace. “It was achieved through a close alliance with Taiyo Yuden of Japan who developed CD-R media.”

Trace, the leading manufacturer of software manufacturing systems, last year started up a business unit to provide solutions specifically for the compact disc industry. “As a result of our experience in designing and developing manufacturing and automation solutions,” said Leek, “we understand the needs of the software developer. We envision the CDP 5300 Printer to be an essential tool for both prototyping and high-volume duplication applications.”
