VUDU Teams with Gracenote to Power In-Home Disc to Digital Service

VUDU Users Can Now Identify and Unlock their DVD Collection in the Cloud, Public Beta of VUDU In-Home Disc to Digital Service Launches Today

EMERYVILLE, Calif., June 4, 2013 — VUDU is working with Gracenote to power video recognition for its new In-Home Disc to Digital service, available today as a public beta offering. The Gracenote technology will let VUDU users identify and unlock many of their favorite DVD and Blu-ray™ movies in the cloud using their PC, and enjoy them across compatible devices using the VUDU service.

Home theater enthusiasts have spent years building their DVD libraries and now they want to stream and download these movies on connected devices. The VUDU In-Home Disc to Digital service makes this possible by tapping into Gracenote’s video recognition technology and database featuring metadata for popular movies and TV shows. Once Gracenote analyzes and identifies the discs, VUDU users can choose to purchase high definition and standard definition versions for viewing – anytime, anywhere – from their compatible tablet, Mac, PC and HDTV.

“This is a transformative move for VUDU, one that lets their users get even more out of the disc collections they have spent years building,” said Stephen White , president at Gracenote.  “By implementing video recognition from Gracenote, VUDU has developed a complete movie and video store and playback service that spans connected devices from popular manufacturers.”
